How to Help Students Enjoy Algebra
How to Help Students Enjoy AlgebraHow to help students enjoy algebra? This may sound like a simple question, but it is not. If you are just starting out as an educator, or if you are an experienced educator that is starting a new course, this article will explain some ways that you can implement so that students enjoy learning algebra. There are two things that many people overlook in their algebra class. The first is that they do not get feedback. In algebra, feedback is important. Students learn more with feedback than without.Teachers also need to give students the ability to ask questions. Often students are afraid to ask for what they want, and that is because they think that asking questions will make them look stupid. It is true that they will make themselves look stupid if they don't ask questions. The second thing that many students forget is that they should be able to take breaks during algebra class. Sometimes students end up working on one problem for a long time, and then the rest of the class spends an extended amount of time on that one problem. The only way to make sure that students learn the material correctly is by giving them the breaks. The longer they sit around doing nothing, the longer it is going to take them to understand the material properly. Some students love to do this, and it is fine to allow them to do it.The last good point is that you need to make sure that you are explaining every concept that you are introducing to students. This is going to be very difficult when they are all sitting at one table and you have to explain what is going on to them. Make sure that you talk to them. That way you can get them interested in what you are teaching them. It can be very difficult to make sure that students enjoy learning. There are some basic tips that you can use to help them understand what you are trying to teach them. They can make sure that they learn the material correctly and they can also make sure that they feel comfortable in their class.

How to Stay Focused Throughout the Work Day
How to Stay Focused Throughout the Work Day via Unsplash Get A Good Nightâs Sleep Itâs time to set a bedtime for yourself, just like when you were younger. Itâs crucial that you get enough sleep so you can stay focused throughout your work day. Time your day just right so you get enough sleep to go into work the next day refreshed and motivated, even if that means waiting until tomorrow to watch the next episode in the series youâve been binge-watching. Organize Your Desk Before you even think about what you have to do today, organize your desk. Clean up anything that may distract you throughout the day. Starting the day with a clean desk will make you feel like you have a clean slate. Declutter your desk by throwing things away, putting them in drawers, or organizing folders so you donât get distracted. A lot of people will use the excuse of cleaning their desk to procrastinate from doing a task. With a clean desk, youâll be able to stay focused throughout your work day. Make a To-Do List One of the best things to do so you stay focused all day long is to make a to-do list. Physically write down on a piece of paper all of your goals for the day. When you visualize all that you have to do, sometimes it makes your day less intimidating. Itâs a great feeling to realize that you donât have too much to do when you were feeling overwhelmed. A to-do list will keep you on track and focused. My favorite part of a to-do list is crossing off the things that I have done. Itâs one of the most satisfying feelings in the world! Time-Block Now that youâve created your to-do list, itâs time to time block. Time blocking is making yourself a schedule for what you will do and when you will do it. For example, if you were to time block your entire day it may look like this: 7:30-8 AM: Wake up 8-9 AM: Shower and eat breakfast 9-9:30 AM: Commute to work 9:30-9:45 AM: Organize Desk 9:45-10 AM: Read emails Time blocking can help you stay focused and keep you on track. This will help you to prioritize what needs to be done first and how long it may take to do it. Many successful people, like Gary Vaynerchuk, swear by time blocking. via Unsplash Block Distractions Stay focused at work by blocking distractions. This can be wearing headphones and listening to some calm, mindless music while you work so people donât stop and talk to you. It can be putting your phone on âDo Not Disturbâ so you arenât distracted by emails, texts, and other notifications. If youâre someone who cannot be trusted to stay off of social media, you may want to download apps that block websites for a certain amount of time. This will be sure to help you stay focused throughout your work day. Take Breaks You arenât a machine that can work for eight hours straight. Itâs important that you take breaks in between tasks. You may think that this would distract you and pull you out of your mindset, but it will actually leave you with a refreshed mind and new thoughts when you come back to your desk. If itâs a nice day out, take a short walk and enjoy the weather. Grab a snack or cup of coffee to keep you from burning out. via Unsplash Exercise in the Morning If youâre ambitious enough, get up early and exercise for 30 to 45 minutes before going into work. When you exercise in the morning you will stay focused throughout the day. Not only will you stay focused, but you will be more conscious of what you eat, have an increased metabolism, and just feel better all around! Stay Focused Throughout the Day Itâs easy to be distracted by whatever is going on around us. However, by making a to-do list, time blocking, exercising, and organizing your desk before you being your day will increase your productivity and help you to stay focused. Make sure to take breaks throughout the day and do whatever is necessary to block distractions.
Handy Math Trick They Don`t Teach You In School
Handy Math Trick They Don`t Teach You In School Would you believe me, if I told you math isnt as hard as you think? Today I want to show you a small math trick. With it help you will be able to multiply double-digit numbers by 11. You will make use of this trick not only at school but also in your daily life. For instance, it can help you to avoid being overcharged. Most of us donât have problems multiplying by 10. And since this day multiplying by 11 will be a piece of cake for you as well. All you need to do is add the digits of the number you are multiplying by 11 and place that in the middle of the original number. If the sum of the digits is 10 or larger, simply carry it over. Letâs look at the example below. 12 x 11 Just separate the number being multiplied by 11 (in this case, 12) so that theres room for your number in-between. Now, just add the two digits in that number together (1 + 2 = 3) and throw the sum in that space you left open. That gives you 132. Another example (when the sum of the digits is larger than 10): 67 x 11 Just add 6 + 7, which gives you 13. Slide it in-between the 6 and 7 and you get 6137. But, since the number 13 is larger than 10 you need to do one more thing. Just add 6 +1 and youll end up with 737. Try it out. You wonât be sorry. Tips From an Interviewer How to Ace Your College Interview
Tips From an Interviewer How to Ace Your College Interview How to Ace Your College Interview (from a College Interviewer) How to Ace Your College Interview (from a College Interviewer) You submitted your college applications a few weeks ago and had just received some fantastic news: you have received an interview invitation! But that raises a few questions: how do you go about preparing for your interview? What are the most important topics to discuss? What should you wear? Here are a few tips to get you started our private Irvine college admissions consultants are only a call away. 1. Itâs Better to be Overdressed than Underdressed Since I recently graduated from college, I tend to be a little more laid-back when I am interviewing a student to make them feel a bit more comfortable. But this does not mean I expect them to show up in jeans and a t-shirt. A good rule of thumb for all interviews is that it is always better to be overdressed than underdressed. When I was going through my own college interviews, I would usually wear a dress shirt and slacks and bring a blazer in case my interviewer seemed like she meant business. During my time as an interviewer, I have interviewed students in all types of outfits, from full-on suits to board shorts and sweatshirts. And even if the students who were more casually dressed had amazing things to say, my opinion of them was definitely affected by their outfit of choice. And vice versa, even when my conversations with the suited students were not the best, I appreciated the effort they put into their appearance, and that reflected in my report (READ: College Admissions Es say Crunch Time). 2. Be Conscious of your Interviewerâs Schedule I am aware that many of the students that are applying to these top-tier schools have a million things on their plate so I try to be flexible with interview scheduling, but often students donât return that flexibility. Iâve emailed students with a few possible interview dates and students only to have them respond âI can only do X time on X day.â Now, there is a better way to go about asking for a different time slot, and that is not it. Many of the people who conduct interviews are busy professionals who have been kind enough to volunteer their time to meet with you, so be conscious of that. Remember to be respectful of your interviewerâs time and if you cannot do the time/date they offer, apologize and offer other options always making sure that you are not inconveniencing your interviewer. 3. Bring Only a Copy of your Resume/CV The only thing you need to bring to an interview is your CV/resume in a nice folder and yourself. As much as I appreciate you bringing the 20-page paper you published on why soda is bad for you, am I going to read it? No. Interview reports are usually written right after the interview so I do not have time to read any additional material. If you want me to know about that paper you published, bring it up during the interview! 4. Give Specific Reasons as to Why you want to attend that particular school I cannot stress this specific point enough. I attended a college in a big city with many other colleges, but whenever I asked students âWhy X school?â They only ever answered: âBecause I want to live in X city.â Well what about all of the other schools in that city? You could use that argument for any of the other schools in that city. Give me a specific reason as to why you want to go to X school. Maybe you want to go into architecture and you know that X school, in particular, has an amazing architecture program. I am especially impressed when students cite a specific class or professor that they are interested in taking or working with. The more specific you can get, the better because that shows that not only do you know what field youâre interested in, but also that youâve done your research. 5. Bring Specific Questions about the School Again, relating back to doing your research about the school, bring school-specific questions. Donât ask me generic questions that you could ask about any school. Or, if you do, pepper them in between specific questions. I volunteered to be an interviewer because, as a recent graduate, I can give students a very clear idea of what the school is like and answer questions about the curriculum, specific classes, the learning environment, etc. This is especially helpful to students who are unable to visit the campus, so try to take advantage of that! I know itâs harder to do this with older interviewers who graduated 20+ years ago, but some things do tend to stay the same so donât be afraid to ask them specific questions about a class or professors! I remember during my interview I asked my interviewer who had graduated in the 90s about a specific professor and, lo and behold, I had that same professor in college! I know the idea of an interview can seem scary and daunting, especially if its the first ever interview youâve had, but donât worry! Just remember to research the school, your interviewer, and common interview questions beforehand. And, most importantly, be yourself! Book your private San Diego college admissions consultant today! What Is An Isotope?
What Is An Isotope?Chemistry is a branch of science which deals with the study of elements. There are a number of substances in the world which are element types and belong to different element groups. Scientists of today are mainly interested in the study of elements that are isotopes and isotope composition. In their research, scientists are studying the properties of elements, what they contain and how it is synthesized. From the study of isotopes, scientists have already recognized many elements that have no trace in the atmosphere of earth. Such elements are known as 'strontium 90' helium-3'. Such isotopes are rare and rarer element and are important in our daily lives. Their use can be found in computers, mobile phones, hi-fi equipment, all-terrain vehicles, scientific instruments and air-cooled power plants. In most of the cases, these special isotopes are used in powering modern day electronics.Other than isotopes, there is also another type of isotopes - meso- and para- isoto pes. These isotopes are not found in nature but are created artificially in laboratories. Scientists do study the use of these isotopes. They are used in spaceflight to achieve higher orbits and reaching the International Space Station in order to conduct researches in the field of science and research. There are also a lot of other isotopes available in the market. The existence of them is actually a myth. All these isotopes are false as well. They are not authentic isotopes. It is true that they have some use, but they are of no use to mankind in general.Since so many types of isotopes exist, it is necessary to study each of them individually. In addition, isotopes of radioactive elements are also used in the laboratory. The presence of radioactive elements in a matter indicates that the atoms of the matter are unstable and the atoms are unstable in the presence of such isotopes. In order to classify isotopes into an element, a group is made. It is possible to use different standard s for classifying these isotopes. According to the standards, the basis for classification is the presence of additional forms of carbon and oxygen. In addition, it is found that the isotopes are heavier than the original atom. As a result, they are classified into a separate element.Iso-6 and P-22 are some of the isotopes of carbon that are identified as unique among all other carbon isotopes. However, they are not as rare as other isotopes and it is more common than the other isotopes. These isotopes were discovered by chance while analyzing the composition of rocks that were given to German scientist Emil Freund by some Chinese workers.
Ask an Admissions Expert Kofi Kankam
Ask an Admissions Expert Kofi Kankam Varsity Tutors brings you insider tips and advice straight from nationally recognized admissions experts. Kofi Kankam is the co-founder of Admit Advantage, a leading admissions consulting company that provides admissions assistance for college, MBA, and law school applicants. He received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Harvard University as well as his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former admissions interviewer for Wharton and has been actively coaching students through their application processes since 2004. VT: How far ahead of time should a student begin working on his or her college application? Kofi: Truthfully, you should begin work on your college application from the moment you start high school as the process of achieving exceptional grades, amassing standardized test scores, and participating in extracurricular experiences that will comprise your application begins. In terms of actually completing the online or paper application, we recommend getting started as soon as applications are released generally sometime in August. We also encourage students to familiarize themselves with the Common Application during junior year, including a practice run at essay writing. VT: What are the best ways to go about selecting a terrific essay topic? Kofi:When beginning the essay writing process, think initially of breadth of topics rather than depth. There is a time for brevity in writing, but the idea-generating stage is not it. We have students brainstorm possible topics by reflecting on people, experiences, events, etc. that have shaped their lives. We additionally encourage them to cull through old photos, thumb through old books, and talk to people who have been an integral part of their lives in order to spark some ideas about possible topics. In general, we advise students to avoid topics that may be too intimate, controversial, or publicized. Many of the most eloquent and memorable essays I have ever read are about mundane topics with a personal spin. VT: Are there any essay topics you get tired of seeing or would warn students to stay away from? Kofi:We tire less of particular topics and more of unsophisticated writing. Too often, applicants write generic essays that fail to differentiate them as candidates. We also warn students against pursuing the controversial topics which are difficult to effectively manage in a college essay. Its one thing to take a stand on an issue; its another thing entirely to take that stand in your essay only to offend or alarm the gatekeepers of the university. There will be plenty of opportunities for debate once the student has earned admission. VT: What is the biggest mistake a student can make on a college application? Kofi:Being disingenuous. This could be in the form of a blatant lie or in a more subtle manner: assembling an application that is incongruous in different parts. VT: What is the typical process an admissions officer goes through to evaluate applications? Kofi:Admissions processes vary widely, especially depending upon the number of applicants, size of admission committee, selectivity of the institution, etc. But, in general, colleges will review the hard data: GPA, class rank, standardized test scores. In addition to the statistics, admission committee members will read supporting documents: student essays, recommendations, resumes, portfolios, etc. In general, the statistical information and supporting documents are the driving force behind some sort of group classification: Admit; Deny; Undecided/Possible. Many schools prefer for each application to be given multiple reads to ensure that candidates are accessed thoroughly and equitably. Unfortunately, some schools, particularly larger institutions, do not have the capabilities to employ such rigorous efforts for large applicant pools and therefore rely on an automated system based on statistics for admission. VT: What do you think is the single most important thing a student should make sure they present in the best possible way on their application? Kofi:By the time students apply to college, much of the data students will report is already fixed (GPA, class rank, standardized test scores), however, the essay remains very much in a category of its own. This is the one element of the application over which the student can exercise control up until the moment of submission. As such, view the essay as potentially your greatest advocate and a true differentiator. VT: How should students go about determining the culture of a university, and whether they would be a good fit? Kofi:To the extent possible, make the visit as authentic as possible: visit while classes are in session, attend an information session, take a tour, and sit in on a class. And dont be afraid to deviate from the script. Student ambassadors and tour guides are trained to highlight the assets of a university, so try to engage students beyond the formal part of your visit. Stop students in the cafeteria or on the green to get a different perspective. One question to always ask on campus visits: If you could change one thing about this school to make it better, what would it be? Every college has areas of weakness, and this question encourages students to hone in these areas. Also, during your visit, be mindful of whatever visceral reaction you have to the campus. Did you immediately fall in love with the campus? Were the students warm and engaging (and not just the tour guides)? Did the students seem miserable or stressed out? Were the students dressed in their Sunday best or still in their pajamas as they headed to class? The more campuses you visit, the more the experiences may start to bleed into one another, so take notes and pictures to help the experience last beyond your visit; limit visits to two maximum per day. Finally, reach out to students you may know who attend schools in which you are interested. Ask them about their experiences, both positive and negative. And ask them if they had it to do over, would they choose the same school? VT: Early-action, early-decision, binding/non-binding, regular decisions...With so many choices when applying, what do you recommend to students? Kofi:Early Decision should be reserved for students who have a clearly defined number one choice school. It is a binding agreement and should be treated as such. Students should also be aware that Early Decisions are made well in advance of financial aid packages being awarded, and if the cost of college is an issue, ED candidates generally have fewer financial aid options given the timing of ED acceptance and aid letters. Early Action provides students with far more options, as acceptances under this provision are not binding, and students have the peace of mind knowing they have been accepted well in advance of decisions that are mailed under regular admission. We never suggest that the type of application, i.e., ED, EA, etc., be the driving force behind a candidates school selection, but rather they should consider the overall fit as the top priority. That being said, we do encourage students to consider applying to schools that will be a good fit and have some sort of Early Action admission. This early planning allows for more application work to be completed early in the school year, decision letters to be mailed earlier, and more time to enjoy some of senior year without the stress of waiting for every decision to come in the spring. VT: How important are grades and standardized test scores when admissions decisions are being made? Kofi:For many schools, they are the two most important criteria considered for admission, with the nod of importance given to the former considering it measures performance over a number of years and not just a single test sitting. If possible, we encourage all students to take some sort of test prep course; not doing so will almost always place students at a disadvantage considering the number of students who now take these courses, particularly if applying to competitive colleges. One thing to keep in mind regarding grades: colleges dont just want to see a strong GPA; they want to see that you have maintained a strong GPA while taking a rigorous course load. VT: What tips do you have for students asking their teachers for letters of recommendation? Kofi:Foremost, dont be afraid to ask teachers if they are able to write a strong letter of recommendation for you. A lukewarm letter of recommendation can certainly undermine your candidacy. Also, we encourage students to provide teachers with a copy of their resum as well as samples of work that they have completed in that teachers class. This will aid the teacher in writing a more personalized and comprehensive recommendation. Once the letter of recommendation has been submitted, remember to send the teacher a hand-written thank you note. For more information, visit AdmitAdvantage.com.
